March 28 to April 4 – zero miles

We spent the last week in Savannah warming our bones from the frigid night we spent at Low Gap Shelter and visiting with the kids. What a great week! We enjoyed sunshine, flat terrain and lots of good conversation…it doesn’t get better than that!

We are definitely blessed to have this time to ourselves and it is amazing how time has slowed down. We often find ourselves wondering what day it is and trying to figure out what to do with our time. Is this how retirement is? This is a great exercise in helping us decide how we want to structure ( or not) our golden years. We have taken many vacations thru the years, usually a week at a time. I took some time off of formally working to raise the kids, but this is different! We are enjoying each others company without the constant interruption of life stuff and it is really relaxing. There are times I get bored, but I think at this point, that is good. My mind is starting to wander a little and I haven’t had the luxury of that in a long time!

The kids and their friends were awesome. We were able to spoil them a little by cooking and cleaning and fixing. It was fun for us and I think they really appreciated it. The best part was getting to see what they do in class. The kids at SCAD are so talented including ours and it was inspiring to see them work.

Leap has decided to stay on the trail. Our plans are to let him slack pack for a couple of days before he puts back on the heavy backpack. Slack packing is a hiking term meaning that you are hiking with only a day pack for water and food. Usually thru-hikers will take advantage of slack packing when they can to cover extra ground. Leap wants to ease back into the trail and get some mileage in so slack packing will be good for him. I will wait in Helen Ga for our son to pick me up and take me back home so I can take care of these knees!

Leap is hoping to continue the blog as he is able and I will try to update his status on the blog page from home. Hopefully, at some point, I will be able to rejoin him but as we have learned before…we are trying not to plan too much ! Happy trails!
